An update from Keith Prew on Kent County Council's proposal to fill-in the quarry at Covers Farm, Westerham.
The much delayed application to fill-in the quarry is still under consideration by Kent CC but a new environmental statement has now recommended a change to the scheme which means that 25% more material would be needed to fill-in the quarry and result in 25% more HGV trips to and from the site.
Warlingham is currently on one of 5 designated routes from the material reclamation zones to the quarry site - Zone E and route on the map. The Warlingham route is totally unsuitable for the type and level of HGV traffic proposed and, even before this proposed change, it was estimated that between 30 and 40 HGVs would have to travel through Warlingham every day to get to and from the quarry.
Surrey Highways had previously objected to the use of the Warlingham route due to severe highway safety concerns on the B2024 section of the route. County Councillor Becky Rush has now made them aware of the likelihood of even greater levels of HGV traffic on this route and asked them to further strengthen their objections to the new proposal.
